White House Names Meritus “Bright Spot” in Hispanic Education

Meritus is pleased to announce that we have been included in the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics’ Bright Spots in Hispanic Education national online catalog. The catalog was unveiled on September 15 by Alejandra Ceja, Executive Director of the Initiative, at the launch of Hispanic Heritage Month and in honor of the Initiative’s 25th anniversary.

The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics was established in 1990 to address disparities faced by the Hispanic community. In selecting 230 Bright Spots, it seeks to increase visibility for programs that support the educational attainment of Hispanic and Latino young people and “encourage collaboration between stakeholders focused on similar issues in sharing data-driven approaches, promising practices, peer advice, and effective partnerships.”

Since our founding in 1996, Meritus College Fund has helped more than 170 local Hispanic students to attend college by providing scholarships, individualized coaching, and career development resources. We attribute our graduation rate of 88% to the talents of our Scholars and to the end-to-end support each receives through our comprehensive program.
