A major goal of the Meritus summer internship is to expand Scholars’ understanding of the opportunities available in their fields. Through partnerships with Hall Capital, IntersectENT, OpenTable, Premier Nutrition, The Melt, and Stanford Hospitals & Clinics, Meritus interns have invaluable experiences to do just that.
Two Scholars interested in nursing are learning about how the business side of the healthcare industry impacts patient care. Leslie Hernandez-Sanchez (2012), a nursing student at Mills College, is excited to learn about how the patient experience is improved through the medical device industry. As a regulatory affairs intern at IntersectENT, Leslie is thrilled to be part of a team that is working to create innovative therapy solutions for patients experiencing chronic sinusitis. 2013 Scholar Vanessa Garcia also understands the important connection between her nursing interests and her summer internship. Vanessa will be working in Stanford Hospital & Clinics Human Resources, Training, and Development Department. She is appreciative of the opportunity to learn how all departments in hospitals collaborate to provide high-quality service to their patients.
Dillon Pan (2010) describes how his internship in finance, pooled vehicles, and compliance at Hall Capital readies him for post-graduation success: “I am most intrigued by the rotational aspect of the internship as it can provide me with maximum opportunities to challenge myself while expanding my financial and investment knowledge.”
Jenny Wu (2013)is a business economics major at UC-Irvine interested in becoming an entrepreneur. She is thrilled to be interning in operations at The Melt. She recognizes the value of understanding and communicating how a business functions to employees and plans to apply these skills in the development of her own future business.
The Meritus program is also offering two Scholars internships in marketing. This summer, Scholar Anna Mai (2013) is excited to combine her passion for healthy living with her interest in the marketing field through her internship at Premier Nutrition. After graduating with a degree in policy from UC-Santa Cruz, Meritus Alumna Amy Kwong (2009) decided she wanted to change course and go into the marketing field. Her internship at OpenTable will allow her to gain the experience she needs to confidently transition to marketing post-graduation.
