On the evening of June 2, Scholars, donors, and alumni formally welcomed the Meritus Scholar Class of 2014 to the Meritus community during the 18th Annual Awards Reception. The evening, which was generously hosted by Zephyr Real Estate and took place at KQED Studios, was a night of celebration of all that our 52 Scholars have achieved thus far and the exciting journey they are about to embark on that is college.
The evening began with remarks from KQED President, John Boland and continued on with a welcome from Diana Wolf, Executive Director of Meritus. Raquel Gonzalez, 2003 Meritus alumna and graduate of Ripon College addressed the new class, sharing her story of overcoming obstacles and ultimately graduating from college. San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim closed out the evening with an moving speech on how she became the leader she is today. As the Supervisor of District 6 which includes the Tenderloin neighborhood – an area a number of students come from – both Scholars and guests were truly inspired by her words.
Cheers to the Meritus Class of 2014!
